"Terres et hommes libres" est la devise de l'Institut National de Terres au Venezuela. L’organisation en coopérative constitue le fer de lance de la politique économique de la Révolution Bolivarienne. Dans le cadre de la Loi des Terres qui vise entre autres à en finir avec les Latifundios (très grandes propriétés rurales) sous-exploités, des coopératives agricoles se développent un peu partout au Venezuela. La « Mission Zamora » a pour objectif la réorganisation de la propriété et l’usage de terres improductives et à vocation agricole afin d’éradiquer le « Latifundio »; une réforme agraire classique, en somme. Dans le même temps, elle s’inscrit dans une politique qui prétend retrouver une souveraineté alimentaire, dans un pays qui importe 70% de son alimentation courante. Ce reportage s’intéresse à deux coopératives à qui l’Etat a attribué des exploitations. Certaines familles proviennent d’autres régions que celle où se trouvent les terrains, et ont parfois perdu leurs biens suite à des catastrophes climatiques qui ont touché des « barrios » (bidonvilles). D’autres ont voulu retourner à la campagne par manque de perspectives dans les villes. Souvent dans des délais assez longs et confronté à des problèmes de corruption, l’Etat met à la disposition des coopératives, en plus des terres, des maisons complètement équipées et des outils de travail, ainsi que des prêts qu’elles ne commencent à rembourser qu’après un ou deux ans de production.
